Many young Tanzanians have useful skills but no clear way to earn from them. Training on its own does not usually solve this, because people learn business best by actually doing it, with real customers and real money.
Upekee works differently. We run our own small businesses and young people learn by working in them. As the businesses grow, they help pay for the training.
AfriUpekee Limited is the parent company. Money moves from the businesses, and from supporters, into a separate Programme fund, so it is always clear how much has gone to young people.

We choose a small group of young people who show commitment and already have a practical skill or a real idea to build on.
They learn by working in our businesses, backed by practical sessions on pricing, business records keeping, compliances, marketing and pitching, plus outside mentors.
Each person leaves with a clear next step, whether that is starting their own venture or getting work first to build up money and experience.
We check back at six months and a year to see whether they are earning and whether they have started a business of their own.
